If you forget that, it\u2019s a doable but tedious process to reset the password for a local account.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The latest April 2018 Update for Windows 10 adds a new feature that makes recovery a lot easier: security questions. Here\u2019s how to set them up.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">How to Add Security Questions to Windows 10<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/\/static.makeuseof.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Windows-10-Add-Security-Questions.jpg\" alt=\"Windows 10 Security Questions\" width=\"670\" height=\"496\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<ol dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Open <strong>Settings<\/strong> and navigate to <strong>Accounts &gt; Sign-in options<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down to the <strong>Password<\/strong> header. Under the <strong>Change<\/strong> button, you\u2019ll see an <strong>Update your security questions<\/strong> link. Click this. (If you don\u2019t see it, you\u2019re using a Microsoft account to sign in.)<\/li>\n<li>Confirm your account password, then you\u2019ll see three boxes where you can select a question and provide an answer.<\/li>\n<li>Choose your questions and answers wisely. You shouldn\u2019t provide obvious answers to security questions.<\/li>\n<li>Once you\u2019ve added an answer for all three, click <strong>Finish<\/strong> and enter an administrator password if needed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Your security questions are ready to go once you\u2019ve done this. To reset your password with them, look for a <strong>Reset password<\/strong> link that appears under the password entry box on the login screen. You\u2019ll see it after you type an incorrect password.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Enter the correct answers for your three questions, and you\u2019ll be able to reset your account password. If you use a Microsoft account, you can reset your password at the login screen using Microsoft\u2019s utility instead.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">We recommend that anyone using a local account adds these questions and notes their answers in a safe location.
